Teesta Barrage long march start on April 8

Left leaning parties will hold the long march, another long march will start from April 17

A road march toward Dhaka-Teesta Barrage shall commence from April 8, protesting ‘weak foreign policy’ of the Awami League (AL) led government and demanding proper share of the Teesta river water from India. Left leaning political parties of the country will arrange the programme.

Abdus Satter, Coordinator of DLA, an alliance of eight left leaning political parties announced the schedule of the program on Wednesday at a press conference in capital.

Meanwhile, Communist party of Bangladesh and Socialist party of Bangladesh will announce another road march on which shall commence from April 18 regarding the same demands, CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim informed the Dhaka Tribune.

“India has been withdrawing unilaterally water from Teesta river at the upper basin, therefore the vast area of greater Rangpur, Dinajpur and Bogra is being dried and the cultivation of crops and vegetables is harmfully affected”, Satter explained.

The road march will start by through a rally in front of the National Press Club on April 8 morning and will hold road side rallies at Joydevpur, Tangail and Bogra respectively.

First day’s road march will be finished at Bogra whereby the marchers will stay overnight, on the following day they will start from Bogra toward Rangpur.

The march will hold rallies at Gobindaganj, Palashbari, Shathibari and Rangpur as well. The programme will be concluded through a rally at Doani Bazar near Teesta Barrage on April 10.

CPB will be start their road march from April 18 and it will finish on April 20. They will hold a demonstration on April 7 for the campaigning of the long march programme and aware people about the malice of the government.
