A court here on Sunday sent former Health and Family Welfare Minister and BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain to jail in a case filed for siphoning off money abroad.
Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan passed the order when police produced him before his court after completion of his three-day remand.
Earlier on Thursday, another Dhaka court placed the BNP stalwart on the three-day remand in the case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on February 6.
According to the case statement, Mosharraf Hossain laundered 8.04 lakh British pounds (equivalent to Tk 9.54 crore) to the United Kingdom when he was Health and Family Welfare Minister during the 2001-2006 tenure of the BNP government.
After examining the package of evidence and other documents, the ACC found that a fixed term deposit of about 8.04 lakh pounds was deposited in a joint account (AC 108492) of Dr Mosharraf and his wife Bilkis Akhter Hossain at Lloyds TSB Offshore Private Banking, Guernsey.
On March 12, a team of Gulshan Police Station arrested Khandaker Moshrraf Hossain from his Gulshan residence and handed him over to Ramna police.
