The Opposition will join the all-party interim government to hold an acceptable national election, FBCCI President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed hopes.
“We want that power will be handed over through a fair and credible polls. We hope the Opposition will join this all-party government and help holding a fair and acceptable election,” he said on Tuesday at a discussion at the National Press Club.
He said that the country currently faced a volatile situation due to lack of ‘understanding’ between the politicians.
“We want peace to do business. Politicians must remember that the world knows Bangladesh because of our economic performance, not for our politics,” the FBCCI president said.
Akram Uddin Ahmed urged the politicians not to do anything which might ‘destroy’ the economy. “One must sustain and not destroy the other.”
Business leaders recently tried to broker talks between the two major political alliances – Awami League-led Grand Alliance and BNP-led 18-Party alliance – and met the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition.
But their effort yielded no result as both alliances stuck to their stands and refused to budge.
Eight members of an ‘all-party’ interim cabinet formed to oversee the 10th parliamentary election took oath on Monday.
But the BNP has called the interim cabinet a ‘farce’.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia met President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday and urged him to take the initiative to get a dialogue started with the government.
