Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged BNP chief and Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia not to call any strike in December, a crucial month for students appearing for their final exams.
The PM made this appeal for the sake of students from a Gazipur Rally on Thursday afternoon.
“The JSC (Junior School Certificate) exam will start from the 4th (of Dec). Words have it that she is likely to enforce a strike again. I would request (her) no to ruin the examination. Our children are studying hard to become good human beings,” said Hasina.
“The next election will be held in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution. The Election Commission will conduct the election, and it will be free and fair,” she said.

Hasina reminded Khaleda that the country’s future PM would come from today’s children.
“I doubt if she (Khaleda) would respond to the request. She cannot say yes to anything,” Hasina chided.
She said it seemed that the opposition leader had no “liking for studies” and qualms about hampering exams by calling strikes.
“It has a reason. She once had appeared for the matriculation exam. She failed to pass in any subject except Bengali, Urdu and Mathematics. She probably wonders why children should pass exams when she failed to do so.
“Her work does not follow her words. She talked in favour of peace and against terrorism and militancy in a press conference. But what did she do in reality? Children have lost their eyes in bombs explosions. Criminals unleashed by her have killed police, BGB and an army man.”
Hasina also shed light on the telephone conversation she had with Khaleda.
She castigated Khaleda for refusing her invitation to a dialogue at Ganabhaban over poll-time government.
“She does the opposite of what she says. She went in the opposite direction when invited for a dialogue.”
Hasina’s rally was organised by the Gazipur district AL at Bhawal Badre Alam Government College playground.
