‘By his statement Yunus seems to be a terrorist’
Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Wednesday said a bill seeking to reform the formation of Grameen Bank’s board of directors and the operation of its management will be placed in Parliament on Sunday.
“We’ve taken necessary steps to reform the Grameen Bank, and the Grameen Bank reform bill will be placed on Sunday. It’ll be passed in the Parliament’s current session,” he said.
The Finance Minister was briefing reporters on the proceedings of the Cabinet Purchase body meeting at the Cabinet Division.
Muhith mentioned that a set of rules has already been prepared by the authorities concerned in the light of recommendations of the high-powered Grammen Bank Commission, formed by the government to investigate the affairs of Nobel Prize-winning microfinance bank.
Responding to Grameen Bank’s founder Dr Muhammad Yunus’ recent remarks, the Finance Minister said: “He (Yunus) is an envoy of peace, but he seems to be a terrorist by his statements.”
Recently, Dr Yunus urged the Grameen Bank’s borrowers and people to protect the bank from “the government’s destructive move”, and warned that the hands of those trying to grab the microfinance bank to be broken.
About the ongoing government’s investigation to ascertain the relation between the Grameen Bank and other Grammen organisations, Muhith said there is no enough time to take actions in this regard.
The Finance Minister reiterated his earlier comment that Dr Yunus is a fully politician.
