Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Thursday said it is urgent to initiate talks on political stability now instead of discussion on election system.
“After 1990’s all elections were held under caretaker government. But political stability couldn’t be restored. So, talks on political stability are urgent,” he said while addressing a workshop in the city.
The workshop, titled ‘JS bodies under media scanner’, was organized by Management and Resources Development Initiative (MRDI) at IPD conference room of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Inu also said that all should engage in discussion how political stability can be ensured after election. The country is passing through a transitional period where political stability is very important.
“It is the time to take decision for which group you will go – with the militants and terrorists or the people working to eliminate it,” he added.
Emphasizing the role of opposition in formulating law, the Information Minister said a total of 257 laws have been enacted by the current parliament and opposition MP’s gave their opinion and consent on the laws.
“Boycotting parliament by the opposition is illogical,” he said.
Speaking at the workshop, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said: “It is important to make the standing committees strong with a view to strengthen the foundation of democracy. Because, the committees play important role in ensuring government’s transparency and accountability.”
The speaker emphasized reaching the activities of the standing committees to the media more perfectly and easily.
Chairman of the standing committee on Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief ABM Anwarul Haque MP, chairman of the standing committee on Ministry of Agriculture Shawkat Momen Shahjahan MP, Saber Hossain Chowdhury MP and Mujibul Haq MP, among others, participated in the discussion.
Editor-in-chief and CEO of Boishakhi Television Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul moderated the workshop.
