BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman sent a legal notice to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday asking to withdraw her December 1 statement against him.
The notice mentioned that the prime minister at a public rally in Moulvibazar on December 1 last year said Tarique was leading a luxurious life in London with the money of corruption.
Barrister Mahabub Uddin Khokon, counsel for Tarique, sent the notice to the Prime Minister Office (PMO) on Wednesday on behalf of Tarique asking the premier to express her 'unqualified apology' for her statement within 28 days.
In the notice, he said if Hasina does not withdraw the 'defamatory' statement and seek apology, they will take legal action against her.
Tarique has not committed any corruption, the legal notice also claimed.
Barrister Ragib Rouf Chowdhury, another lawyer for Tarique, confirmed it to The Daily Star saying that Hasina has to express apology to Tarique publicly according to the legal notice.
Tarique has been living in London for treatment since September 2008.
He was arrested on March 7, 2007 on charges of corruption during the tenure of caretaker government. He went to London after his release on bail on September 3, 2008.
