Tarique: Awami League aimed to destroy future of people

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has claimed that the Awami League intended to destroy the future of the people of Bangladesh.

Speaking at a workshop in Comilla on Tuesday evening, he said that for over 15 years, BNP leaders and activists have faced torture, abductions, and murders. Rather than these hardships, BNP still enjoys the highest public support, with the nation’s people looking toward the party for leadership.

The workshop, titled “31 Points for Restructuring the State” and focusing on public engagement, was held at the Fantown Conference Hall in Comilla. The event was presided over by BNP Comilla Division Organizing Secretary, Prof Selim Bhuiyan, Senior BNP leader Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the workshop, which was conducted by the party’s Central Training Secretary, ABM Mosharraf Hossain.

Tarique Rahman explained that the 31-point plan reflects BNP’s goals for the country and its people. He emphasised that these points had been outlined two years ago, even before it was clear when the autocratic rule would end.

He highlighted that the purpose of these points was to work for the betterment of Bangladesh and its people.

During the session, Tarique Rahman responded to a question about party membership, emphasizing that one must be retained within the party through ideals rather than material offerings. “It is the ideals that bind a person to the party, not just offerings,” he said.

He further addressed the comparison often made to Western nations like the UK and the USA, stating that people in Bangladesh should demand accountability from their representatives. “We do not need to cite examples of London or America if we have accountability here in our country,” he said.

Tarique Rahman concluded by reaffirming that most people in Bangladesh place their trust in BNP. He cautioned that maintaining this trust requires disciplined behavior and conduct at the grassroots level. He also shared personal anecdotes of sacrifice within his family, stating that both his father and brother were martyrs for the country and that many BNP families have faced similar hardships.

“We must not only think of ourselves but also of the people of this country,” Tarique Rahman said, urging his party members to continue their commitment to the nation’s welfare.
