The Nehru-Gandhi Dynasty

1947: The Congress Party led India’s freedom movement and has held power for much of the nation’s history – led first for 17 years by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

A year before India’s independence, Mr. Nehru and his mentor, Mohandas K. Gandhi, attended a party meeting in Bombay, now known as Mumbai.
