Members of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a Hefajat-e-Islam leader from the capital’s Lalbag area this evening.
The arrested Hefajat leader is Shakhawat Hossain, 42, central assistant secretary general of Hefajat-e-Islam, reports our staff correspondent quoting Mahbub Alam, joint commission (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

He was the second Hefajat leader to be arrested in the last two days after DB officials arrested Mufti Sharifullah, central assistant organising secretary of the organisation, from Hajaribag area of Jatrabari yesterday.
Tipped off about his whereabouts, police arrested Shakhawat, wanted in several cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations in connection with the violence and vandalism during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at 7:00pm, the police official said.
He was taken to DB office and is facing interrogation there now, Mahbub said.
