Dhaka will host the next year’s 45th council of foreign ministers of the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the foreign office said on Wednesday.
The decision was taken at the 44th council of foreign ministers (CFM) of OIC members in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, according to a foreign ministry press release.
It said Bangladesh proposal to host this high profile conference after nearly three decades and a half received a full support from member states.
“This came as the recognition of Bangladesh’s active and constructive role and growing importance in the OIC,” the foreign ministry said.
It added that Bangladesh will get the opportunity of highlighting its success stories in a number of areas which the country is willing to share with OIC member states in the Ummah’s benefits.
Foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali, who is leading he Bangladesh delegation at the 44th council, thanked the OIC member states for reposing confidence in the government of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, the ministry said. The council was was inaugurated by Cote d’Ivoirian president Alassane Ouatara on Monday.
With this, the release added, Bangladesh has become a part of the OIC Troika and an influential member of the important 8-member OIC executive committee for the next three years.
