The High Court has scrapped BNP leader Tarique Rahman’s wife’s petition to drop the charges of hiding asset information against her.
Zubaida Rahman was also ordered by the court to surrender to the trial court in the case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
The bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath gave the order setting an eight-week deadline to turn herself in on Wednesday.
In 2007, the ACC filed the case against former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s elder son Tarique, Zubaida and his mother-in-law Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu on charges of hiding information on assets.
Tarique faces charges of earning an amount around Tk 48.2 million from undisclosed sources and concealing information on the assets.
His wife and mother-in-law were sued for assisting him and concealing information.
According to the case detail, Zubaida received two fixed deposit receipts (FDR) worth Tk 3.5 million from Tarique.
They had charges pressed against them by ACC on Mar 31, 2008.
Following a petition by Zubaida, the High Court stayed the case for two months on Apr 8, 2008.
The ACC’s appeal of withdrawal of the stay was rejected, bringing the hearing on the case to a standstill.
