The scrutiny of nomination papers by Returning Officers have left 847 candidates out of 1,107 aspirants to contest in 300 constituencies in the parliamentary election scheduled on Jan 5.
Dec 2 was the last date of filing the nominations.
The scrutiny revealed that seven seats had just one candidate in each of them.
In 26 others, the Returning Officers could validate the candidature of just one of the several aspirants in each.
In the Laxmipur-3 seat, none of the two candidates was shown the green light.
However, the decision on whether fresh nominations would be allowed for that seat will be taken after an appeal to the Election Commission.
Returning Officers checked the nomination papers over Thursday and Friday.
EC officials said aspirants whose nominations had been cancelled could appeal to the Commission between Dec 7 and Dec 9, challenging the decisions.
If the EC rejects their appeal, they can move the Supreme Court against the cancellation.
Dec 13 is the last date for the candidates to withdraw from the contest.
