The government has shaken up the Narayanganj police administration by transferring two inspectors, 40 sub-inspectors (SI) and 39 assistant sub-inspectors (ASI) of police following the abduction and killing of seven people that outraged the nation.
They were shifted to police stations in different areas under the Dhaka range, Assistant Inspector General of Police (Media) Jalal Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury told bdnews24.com on Thursday.
The order seems to have removed the officials only from the Fatulla and Siddhirganj police stations and the district police’s Detective Branch.
Most of these officers were deputed to these two stations and some of them were DB members, said Narayanganj police’s Special Branch (SB) Inspector Moinur Rahman.
Thursday’s move follows the removal of the district’s deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, OCs of two police stations and the OC and an inspector of the DB in the port city.
These four and the commanding officer (CO) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the district were removed two days after seven people including city corporation Councillor Nazrul Islam were abducted on Apr 27.
Several days later, their bodies were found floating in the Shitalakhya River.
On Wednesday, the army also forced three RAB officers, including the removed CO, accused of taking money to kill the seven, to retire.
They were on deputation to RAB-11 in Narayanganj.
