The devastating fire that broke out on Sunday afternoon at a garment factory at Sripur in Gazipur left the seven-storey building crumbling down early Monday.
The extreme heat, generated by prolonged fire, melted the steel-frame of the building, triggering its collapse around 4:00am.
Shahin Alam, the station officer of Gazipur fire service, said the fire, which broke out at around 2:00pm on Sunday, is now under control.
Firemen are on continuous effort to prevent the fire from spreading around, he said.
Fire service control room in Dhaka at 10:25am said 13 fire engines were still working on the spot.
No casualties were reported as all 3,000 workers of Dignity Textiles Limited at Betjuri were out at lunch hours when the fire broke out, said the factory management.
Gazipur fire service sources and the factory workers said the fire had originated from its warehouse on the third floor and soon engulfed the entire building.
Meanwhile, Gazipur district administration on Sunday formed a five-member committee to look into the fire incident.
The committee, led by Sripur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Sadiqur Rahman, was asked to submit its report within five working days, said additional deputy commissioner Mohammad Hossain.
