Police investigating the Gulshan terror attack claim to have gathered information about eight to nine militants being involved directly or indirectly in the carnage other than those killed in the raid ending the deadly siege.
“We are collecting evidence about them,” police’s counterterrorism unit chief Monirul Islam told bdnews24.com on Sunday.
He, however, did not take names for the sake of the investigation into the attack that left 22 persons, including 17 foreigners, dead on July 1.
Police arrested four persons on charge of sheltering the Gulshan cafe attackers after finding two flats where the terrorists had been hiding.
They questioned two of the freed hostages for their alleged involvement with the militants. Police have reportedly freed them but their families claim they have not returned home.
At least four others, including a woman, are believed to have been detained in Narsinghdi, Comilla and Ashulia over the Gulshan carnage.
Raihan Kabir alias Tarek, one of the nine suspected militants killed in a raid on a house in Kalyanpur on July 26, was the trainer of the Gulshan attackers, police said.
Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque recently said the source of the arms used in the attack had been found.On Sunday, Monirul spoke about the masterminds behind the attack.
“The work to collect information on who are the masterminds is under way. We have got names of eight to nine persons involved in the incident directly or indirectly,” he said.
Police have launched a manhunt for them on getting the information in recent raids on the hideouts of militants.
He reassured the people that they have nothing to fear about the drive because police are conducting the block raid in “public interest”.
