Eight persons were killed and 15 others injured when a pickup van overturned at Beltoli of Mymensingh on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway this morning.
Police said the accident happened at 7:00am when the Mymensingh bound pickup from Dhaka turned turtle as the driver of the vehicle lost control over the steering. Five persons were killed on the spot.
Of the injured, 10 persons were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition. Three of them succumbed to their injuries at the MMCH.
Being informed, police and fire service personnel rescued the dead and wounded from the spot. The dead bodies were sent to the MMCH for postmortem.
Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mymensingh Kotwali Model thana, said the identities of the dead could not be ascertained instantly.
