At least eight activists and a photojournalist were injured on Wednesday as factions of ruling Awami League-backed Bangladesh Chhatra League and Juba League clashed over tender in Barisal.
Witnesses and official sources said Wednesday was the last date for dropping tender documents called by Local Government Engineering Department for constructing roads and culverts at three upazilas.
Rival groups of contractors, led by Jasimuddin and Asim Dewan, city BCL president and secretary, and Shahin Shikdar and Ziaur Rahman Biplob, joint convener and convening committee member of city Juba League, took position in and outside of Barisal LGED office from Wednesday morning.
They also engaged in scuffle over dropping tender.
At least eight people including Morshed Alam Miraz, BCC ward 16 AL secretary, Alamin, Babuganj Juba League leader, Suhad, photojournalist of daily Kaler Kantha Barisal office, were injured in the clash of rival factions of BCL and BJL and action of law enforcers.
Shakhawat Hossain, Kotwali police officer in charge, said police forces were deployed in the area.
No case was lodged, Shakhawat added.
