The Anti Kidnapping Squad of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has detained eight fake members of DB Police from Aftabnagar area in the capital’s Badda area on Sunday night.
Krishnapada Roy, deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) Police, made the disclosure in a press briefing at DMP media centre on Monday morning.
He said the group was conducting abductions and demanding ransom since a couple of months.
The detainees are – Tajul Mridha alias Sujon, 32, Md Jamaluddin, 35, Md Shipom, 30, Md Yakub, 31, Md Mamun Khalifa, 28, Md Rubel, 25, Shimul Sardar, 27, and Rafiqullah Shahed, 47.
The squad also seized 20 crude bombs, one Russian shotgun, handcuffs and a walkie-talkie from the possession of the detainees.
The ‘Anti Kidnapping Squad’ started its journey on May 3 aiming to fight against the increasing number of abductions.
