Responding to the show-cause notices, seven dissident Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leaders on Wednesday explained their positions over the allegation of their involvement in activities contrary to party discipline.
JCD ex-vice presidents Javed Hasan Swadhin, Tarun De, former joint secretaries Tarikul Islam Titu, Ferdous Ahmed Munna, and ex-assistant general secretary Rakibul Islam Royal, Chakbazar thana unit ex-president Zakir Hossain Babu and Lalbagh president Nahidul Islam submitted their written replies to the show-cause notices to BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier on Monday, a BNP press release signed by its joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said JCD ex-organising secretary Anisur Rahman Talukder and former-vice president Abu Sayeed were expelled from all the posts, including the party’s primary membership, for violating party discipline.
The party also asked Javed, Tarun De, Titu, Munna and Royal to show causes appearing in person at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office by 5pm on Tuesday over the allegation of their activities against party discipline.
Later, JCD office secretary also asked Babu and Nahid to explain by 5pm Wednesday their activities against the discipline of the organisation.
Complying with the orders of their party, the seven JCD leaders came to the BNP central office and submitted their replies by 5pm.
Meanwhile, a group of JCD revels staged demonstrations in front of the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the afternoon demanding that the new body of BNP’s student associate organisation be dissolved.
They also demanded the party withdraw its expulsion order against ex-JCD leaders Anisur Rahman Talukder Abu Sayeed and existing committee’s joint secretary Gazi Rezwanul Haq.
On October 14, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia approved a 201-member partial committee of the party’s student associate body with Rajib Ahsan as president and Akramul Hasan general secretary.
A group of dissident JCD leaders and activists started demonstrating in front of the Nayapaltan office the following day demanding that the new body of BNP’s student associate organisation be dissolved calling it an ‘incompetent and pocket committee’.
After five consecutive days’ demonstrations and violent clashes between the JCD rebels and new committee group, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir sat with the dissident groups on October 19.
After the meeting, the dissident group postponed their demonstrations.
Later, BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas, assigned by the party high command, sat with the rebel JCD men but failed to reach an understanding.
