54 more BNP people, one Jamaat leader jailed in 3 cases

Fifty-four leaders and activists of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and a central leader of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Tuesday were sentenced to different jail terms in three separate cases filed with Bangshal, Kafrul and Dakshin Khan police stations on charges of violence.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Moinul Islam sentenced 38 leaders and activists of the BNP to four years’ imprisonment each in a case filed with the Dakshin Khan police station in the capital  on charges of violence in 2018.

The convicts are Shafiqul Islam Shafiq, Abdul Alim, Shahin Mia, Md Mamun, Shamsul Haque Ripon, Rumman Siddiqui, Shaheen, Rajeev, Samoar Hossain, Md. Dulal Mia, Nuruzzaman Howlader Sohel, Anwar Hossain Bakul, Md Kamal Hossain, Shah Alam, Din Islam, Md Abdur Rahim Badsha, Ripon Sarkar, Abu Bakar Siddique, Khokon Member, Ali Hossain, Motaleb Hossain Ratan, Shahidul Islam, Yakub Ali, Md Mokles, Mumtaz Uddin, Md. Sheikh Noor Mohammad, Md Harun or Rashid Harun, Md Anwar Hossain Sarkar, Tofazzal Hossain Mithu, Sarkar Rafiqul Islam Mukul, Md Golam Mustafa, Md. Mozaffar Hossain Badal, Md Zakir Hossain, Md Yakub Ali, Md Sofil Uddin, Md Sharif Hossain, Ripon Mia, and Lutfar Rahman Khokon.

In September, 2018, police filed the case against the BNP leaders and activists with the police station on charges of violence in the area.

Meanwhile, Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Sultan Sohag Uddin sentenced 16 leaders and activists of BNP to six-month imprisonment each in a case filed with the Bangshal police station.

 

 

The convicts are Jubo Dal organising secretary Ishaq Ali Sarkar, Md Mohan, Rafiqul Islam, Dollar Iqbal, Md Shajahan, Abdul Karim, Siraj Sheikh, Mohammad Masum, Md Belal Hossain, Raju Ahmed, Abdur Rahman, Mohammad Sentu, Md Faruque, Kamal Hossain, Zubair Alam and Kamrul Islam.

In October 2013, the police filed the case with the Bangshal police station on charge of vandalism in the area.

On the other hand, Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Toriqul Islam sentenced Jamaat-e-Islam central committee leader Lashkar Mohammad Taslim to two years’ imprisonment in a case filed with the Kafrul police station in the capital.

The court also fined him Tk 3000, in default of which he would have to serve one more month in jail. The court cross-examined five out of nine witnesses during the trial.

According to the case documents, on March 21, 2013, Lashkar Mohammad Taslim stopped a CNG opposite the staff quarter of Kafrul police station and set it on fire that caused a loss of Tk 10,000 to the CNG.

Later, the CNG driver, Mohidul Islam, filed the case with the Kafrul police station over the incident, while on February 27, 2014, police submitted a charge sheet against Lashkar Mohammad Taslim as the lone accused.
