51 fall sick after eating Pahela Baishakh lunch

At least 51 people fell sick from Thursday night to Friday afternoon after eating lunch at Pahela Baishakh celebration programme, organised by Kachua Upazila Nirbahi Officer at Bagherhat.

A total of 24 people were admitted to Upazila Health Complex with stomach pain, vomiting tendency and diarrhoea, said UNO Kazi Mahbubur Rashid.
Others were taking treatment at their homes and other hospitals, he said.
The feast was organised by UNO at local Ladies Club where at least 300 guests, including government officials of different departments and local teachers, journalists and law enforcers attended.
The food was ordered from a local restaurant and the menu included wet rice (panta), hilsha fry, brinjal fry, smashed potato, smashed prawn and red-lentil.
A three-member committee, led by livestock official Debendranath Sarkar, was formed to probe into the matter.
The committee was asked to submit the report within three days.
