In the current fiscal year of 2013-14, Bangladesh received a total of $10.479bn in remittances until March
The country has received remittances amounting to about $500m within the first 11 days of the current month.
According to a Bangladesh Bank statement, non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) living abroad have sent a total of $495.86m from April 1-11 of the current year.
Of this, $160.63m came into the country in the first four days while the remaining $335.23m flowed in between April 5-11.
Of the $495.86m, remittances amounting $160.57m came into the country through four state-owned commercial banks while specialised banks brought only $7.15m, statistics showed.
The most significant portion of remittances entered the country through private banking channels. Of the 39 private commercial banks who brought $323.29m, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) played the leading role by bringing in $126.44m alone.
The IBBL was followed by National Bank ($23.48m), Pubali Bank ($17.37m) and Bank Asia ($14.56m).
Nine foreign banks operating branches in Bangladesh brought in $4.85m.
In the current fiscal year of 2013-14, Bangladesh received a total of $10.479bn in remittances until March.
Of this, it received $1.26bn in January, $1.173bn in February and $1.273bn in March.
