A Dhaka-bound train has rammed a human hauler in the Narayanganj Sadar Upazila, killing five and injuring at least nine others.
The incident in Rasulpur’s Pagla area took place around 10:30pm on Monday, said Md Sharfuddin, the ASP of the Fatullah Model Police Station.
The injured were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The bodies of a woman and three men were kept in the hospital morgue.
Sharfuddin said one person was killed on the spot, while another four died on the way to the hospital.
Kamlapur Railway OC Abdul Majid said, “The accident occurred when the train rammed the Laguna in the rear at the unauthorised crossing which had no gates or attendant.”
The identities of the deceased could not be immediately known, Sharfuddin said.
DMCH police camp Sub-Inspector Mozammel Haque said the injured were in a critical state.
Dhaka District Railway’s Manager Md Arifuzzaman said, “You have to look both ways before crossing a railway track. But the Laguna driver was desperate. He did not even hear the train’s whistle.”
He added the train had reached Kamlapur Station safely.
