Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy says they hope to introduce 4G mobile networks in Bangladesh during this term of the Awami League-led government.
Speaking at the inauguration of distributing tablet PCs for government officials on Thursday, he revealed plans for auctioning 4G spectrum in 2016.
“My vision is Bangladesh will not lag in technology behind any other country.
“One of personal targets, which I want to emphasise, is cyber security. We are developing networks and data centres – now we need to focus on cyber security,” said Sheikh Hasina’s son.
He said his second target was to develop an ‘Internet Neutrality Policy’ for Bangladesh.
“We will develop a strong policy so that no one can hinder the process of reaching cheap internet to everyone.”

And the third priority is to bring 4G mobile networks here in Bangladesh.
“During its previous term the government introduced 3G network, which has now spread up to the Upazila levels.
“My plan is to hold 4G spectrum auctions by 2016 and implement it by this term” he said.
Joy said he believed a more digitalised government services will curb down corruption.

“My request to those who have received tabs is we are to serve the people, to bring about changes in their lives. The aim of a ‘Digital Bangladesh’ is smooth delivery of government service to each and every citizen.”
The government also had plans to provide free laptops to poor students and low-interest loans for students to buy laptops, the prime ministerial adviser said.
Speaking on the occasion, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said 25,000 tablet PCs will be distributed under the ‘Info Sarkar-2’ project.
On Thursday, 18,000 government officials received ‘Media Pad’ tablets made by Chinese manufacturer Huawei.
