42 women, girls raped, 16 victims of sexual abuse in Feb: report

At least 42 women and girls were raped and 16 others were victims of sexual abuse in February, a report, published by the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad on Thursday, said.

According to the report, four girls were victims of stalking and three women and girls were victims of human trafficking while two women were victims of acid violence.

Four were tortured for dowry and one of them died in the month, the report said.

At least seven women and girls were victims of physical abuse and 17 other women and girls committed suicide.

The report revealed that three domestic workers were tortured and two of them were killed.

 

 

At least seven women and girls were kidnapped, while 21 were victims of attempted kidnapping.

Four women and girls were victims of cybercrimes and 13 died under mysterious circumstances in the month.

At least seven cases of attempted child marriage were reported during the period.

The report was based on news published in 16 national dailies that revealed that 116 girls and 106 women suffered gender-related violence totalling 222 incidents in February, said a release of the Mahila Parishad.
