4 Rohingyas held with Bangladeshi passport

Law enforcers arrested six people including four Myanmar Rohingyas at Shahjalal International Airport in the capital yesterday when they were trying to fly abroad with forged Bangladeshi passports.

Members of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and immigration police arrested the Rohingyas around 8:30am. They are Nasima Khatun, 30, her daughter Jannati Begum, 13, and relatives Rokeya Begum, 18, and Kabir Ahmed aged about 24.

The four were about to depart for Saudi Arabia by a flight of Kuwait Airways at 10:30am, said Zahed Parvez Chowdhury of APBn.

The APBn men also rounded up 28-year-old Sumon Bhuiyan for helping the refugees manage Bangladeshi passports and leave the country.

Law enforcers in another operation at the airport arrested two Bangladeshi nationals for possession of two forged passports. The arrestees are Asadul Islam, 32, and Mahmudul Islam, 22.

The duo was trying to embark on a Thailand-bound flight of Air India.
