Opposition BNP on Saturday alleged their 300 leaders and activists remained missing since the arrest by law enforcers, including Rab, during the last one month.
BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan claimed it at a press briefing at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office.
“Nowadays Rab members are arresting opposition leaders and activists after raiding their houses in the name of search and then making them disappeared,” he alleged.
He said BNP formed the elite force Rab after assuming power in 2001 for curing terrorism and maintaining law and order which achieved people’s confidence and appreciation for its efficiency and courage.
“But the present government turned the Rab force into a tainted and frightening one like ‘Rakkhi Bahini’ of Awami League by using it for killing, repression, abduction and disappearance of opposition leaders and activists in the last five years,” he said.
“The reputation of Rab has become questionable at home and abroad. The local and international human rights bodies are expressing concern over the role of Rab,” he added.
He urged the authorities concerned to take steps for stopping such heinous activities of Rab and return the disappeared opposition leaders and activists to their family members.
