Police have arrested 26 people for their suspected involvement with an attack on a private university campus in Dhaka.
The Registrar of Northern University Eqtedar Ahmed Siddiqui filed a case against the construction firm EDB at the Tejgaon Police Station after an attack on their Karwan Bazar campus where five students were injured.
Tejgaon Police Station OC Mazharul Islam said all of the men arrested worked for EDB. They were arrested under charges of assault and vandalism.
Siddiqui told bdnews24.com he had filed the case naming EDB Managing Director Faizul Bari and 25 others.
The miscreants hacked five students of the university on its Karwan Bazar campus. All of them were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Fourth semester law student Adnan Hossain said a group of up to 45 men brandishing sticks and sharp weapons showed up on the 12th floor of the university building, where the canteen is located, around 11am.
“They claimed they owned the floor,” he said. “Without any provocation, they pounced on at least 10 students and hacked five of them.”
Coordinator of Northern’s Karwan Bazar campus, Saiful Islam alleged Friday’s attack by the EDB henchmen was the result of a clash between the university and the real estate company over the ownership of a floor on the building.
No-one from the EDB could be reached for comments so far.
