The just-concluded three-day apparel show, ‘Batexpo-2013’, bagged spot orders worth US$ 58.37 million, which is lower than that of previous year (US$61.35 million), the apex trade body of the RMG sector said yesterday.
Of the total spot orders, the apparel makers received spot orders worth US$ 57.03 million while stocklot spot orders stood at worth US$ 1.34 million, said a BGMEA media release on Sunday.
“Though the number of buyers is lower this time, we think the event has been successful,” it said.
The BGMEA thinks the current political scenario and uncertainty had negative impacts on the fair. “The fair saw a 5 percent decline of buyers this time compared to that of the last year.”
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters’ Association (BGMEA) arranged the Bangladesh Apparel and Textile Exposition (Batexpo) for the 24th time in the city that started on October 10 and ended on Saturday.
A total of 13,180 people visited the fair venue this year that included 136 foreign buyers and 2556 buyers’ representatives. There were 159 foreign buyers and 2,846 buyers’ representatives last year.
The USA, the UK, Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Germany, Australia, Spain, Russia, Poland, turkey, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, France, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Greece, Thailand, Singapore, South Africa, Portugal, Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Uruguay and Egypt participated in the fair.
