The government, for the first time, on Monday awarded special cards to 10 companies and 10 individuals for being the highest taxpayers in fiscal 2009-10.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith handed over the certificates, Tax Card, to the recipients at a ceremony at Officers Club in Dhaka.
The recipients are entitled to some privileges for a year from the issuing of the cards. They will be invited to different national programmes and functions of municipal and city corporations.
They will get priority in ticket booking from Biman — the national flag carrier — for overseas travels, and reservation of seats in government transports in rail and river ways.
The tax cardholders, their spouse and children will also get priority in getting cabins for treatment in public hospitals.
The companies that received tax cards are: Chevron Bangladesh Block-12 Ltd, Sylhet Gas Field Ltd, Citi Bank NA, American Life Insurance Company Ltd, Trust Bank Ltd, Security Printing Corporation Bangladesh Ltd, Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority, Jamuna Bank Ltd, AK Khan and Company Ltd, and Bapex Ltd.
The individuals are: Motazzerul Islam (tax circle-Rangpur), Iqbal Haider Chowdhury (tax circle-10), Md Kaus Mia (tax circle-2), Dr MM Amjad Hossain (tax circle-8), Mohammad Yusuf (tax circle-8), MA Haider Hossain (tax circle-8), Md Motahar Hossain (tax circle-2), Salauddin Kashem Khan (tax circle-1, Chittagong), AM Ziauddin Khan (tax circle-1, Chittagong), and Laila Hossain (tax circle-8).
