At least 20 Islami Chhatra Shibir activists reportedly sustained bullet injuries in a clash between police and Shibir men at Rainbow crossing of Moghbazar in the city on Tuesday morning. Police detained 8-10 people from the spot.Witnesses said some leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, brought out an Independence Day rally from Moghbazar level crossing at about 8:30 am and reached at Rainbow crossing of Hatirjheel area at about 8:45 am.
When the Shibir leaders started addressing the rally at Rainbow crossing, police lobbed tear gas shells and fired rubber bullets to disperse the rally.
Shibir claimed that at least 20 of their leaders and activists sustained bullet injuries when police fired gun shots on their peaceful Independence Day rally without any provocation. The injured were undergoing treatment at different city hospitals.
Contacted, Inspector (Investigation) Md Moshiur Rahman said police dispersed the Shibir rally as they blocked the road of Hatirjheel at Rainbow crossing.
