The BNP-led 20-party alliance has demanded arrest of Posts and Telecommunications Minister Abdul Latif Siddique for his defamatory remarks on hajj.

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came up with the demands at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Wednesday afternoon.
Fakhrul said: “The real face of the government has come to light as they are yet to give any clear statement regarding Abdul Latif’s derogatory remarks on hajj.”
He said: “We will announce further programmes after observing government’s move in this connection.”
“But if any political party announces any programme, BNP-led 20-party will support them in this regard.”
On Tuesday, Jatiya Party Chairman and also Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s special envoy HM Ershad demanded arrest of Siddique for his comments on hajj.
Also Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat demanded the arrest of minister Latif for his remarks on hajj.
On Sunday, Siddique made comments on hajj while addressing a reception programme arranged by the Tangail expatriates in New York, USA.
The minister’s derogative comments on hajj have sparked widespread controversy in home and abroad.
