BNP spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has claimed that the BNP-led 20-party Alliance is intact despite some of its allies joining a new alliance.
He also accused the government of trying to break up the alliance by deputing ‘spies’.
Against the backdrop of the emergence of National Democratic Front (NDF), a 10-party alliance that includes five members of the BNP-led alliance, Fakhrul on Thursday said, “The alliance is intact. Not a single party has left the alliance.”
National Peoples’ Party chief Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Nilu is the head of the new alliance.
Along with NPP, National Democratic Party (NDP) led by Alamgir Majumder, Bangladesh Muslim League led by Zobaiyda Quader Choudhury, National Awami Party, NAP led by Sheikh Anwarul Haque and Bangladesh Islamic Party led by Abdur Rashid Pradhan, were the constituents of the 20-party alliance who joined NDF.
But all of them left behind a splinter group of their respective parties.
“In the past there were many attempts to destroy the 20-party Alliance. Even today, they tried to break it up with the help of their spies, but it didn’t work,” Fakhrul said.
The BNP acting secretary general said BNP leaders were lured away from the party many times in the past but they all had to ultimately return to the party fold.
He accused the Awami League of trying to sabotage the alliance.
“They have become so politically bankrupt that the only thing left for them to do is to try luring alliance leaders away with money.”
“One or two people might get duped and leave, but it’s useless. People’s movement won’t stop for a few leaders going away for money,” he said.
Fakhrul also criticised the government on various issues.
“The government is making new laws every day. They came out with the broadcast policy to control the media. They passed the 16th amendment to control judges through a Parliament that does not represent the people,” he said.
He warned that the ‘conspiracies’ would not be able to hinder their movement.
