Two students of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology in Dhaka have died while swimming near Saint Martin Island in Cox’s Bazar on Monday.
They are Montizul Islam, Evan, and Saddam Hossain.
Moreover, four students of the university went missing after being swept away by a strong tide while taking bath in the Bay.
Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge Ranajit Kumar Barua told the Dhaka Tribune.
Ranajit said: “A group of 34 students of Ahsanullah University went into the sea for a bath at St Martin Island at around 2pm. At the time, five students were seen washing away in the Bay. Later, locals, coast guard members rescued them and took them at Teknaf Hospital.”
Two of them were declared dead. The rest three – Faisal, Farhan and Asif — are now in critical condition at the hospital, he added.
The missing students are — Sabbir Hasan, Shahriar Rahman, Uday Hasan, Golam Rahim Bappi.
