2 Bangladeshis killed in Libya missile attack

Two Bangladeshi siblings were killed while two other Bangladesh nationals injured in a missile attack on their residential camp at Benghazi city in Libya on Saturday night.

The deceased are Swapan and his younger brother Milon, sons of Abdul Kuddus Shayal of Shariatpur district.

The injured are Ibrahim and Kamal — both from Brahmanbaria.

“Ibrahim has been released after primary treatment while Kamal is still undergoing treatment at hospital,” said Ahsan Kibria.

Responding to a query, the official said they would be able to send back the bodies by next 10 days on completion of necessary formalities.

He said the migrant workers used to work in a water purification plant – Sama Libya – in Bengazi and used to live at a residential camp close to their workplace.

The water plant officials, however, shifted other Bangladeshi workers to a safe zone soon after the attack.

Officials said a missile slammed on the labour camp at about 10:30pm on Saturday when 32 Bangladeshis were sleeping there, leaving two of them killed and two others injured.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Libya has advised Bangladeshi migrants, not less than the 25,000, living in Bengazi to remain alert and take extra safety measures to avert further incidents.

Around 45,000 Bangladeshis are now working in Libya.

Earlier in February and March, three Bangladeshi workers were killed in Benghazi in Libya when they came into to line of fire.
