Customs officials seized 156 gold bars weighing around 18 kilograms at the Shahjalal International Airport in the capital Friday morning.
On secret information, customs officials searched a bus on the airport tarmac carrying passengers of United Airways around 9:30am and found the gold bars inside a tyre, said Ayesha Akhter, assistant commissioner of the airport customs.
The tyre was kept beside the seat of the bus driver, she said.
The flight came to Dhaka from Mascot via Dubai, the assistant commissioner added.
The customs officials detained bus driver Md Falan Fakir for interrogation.
The gold would be worth around Tk six crore.
Earlier on July 24, 1,065 gold bars weighing around 116 kilograms were seized at the airport.
