Fifteen people have received stray bullet wound during a factional clash between two groups of ruling Awami League in capital’s Mirpur.
The clash occurred around 11:30am Sunday.
The supporters of MP Aslamul Hoque Aslam locked into a quarrel with the supporters of female reserved seat MP Sabina Akhter Tuhin over holding a rally against the Jamaat-e-Islami enforced hartal.
At a stage of the quarrel, the supporters opened fire at each other that left 10 people bullet wounded. Later, the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Mirpur zone Additional Deputy Commissioner Masud Ahmed said: “We fired three rounds of bullets to bring the situation under control.”
Brigadier General Mizanur Rahman, director of DMCH, told journalists that 15 people, all wounded by stray bullet, were brought to the hospital.
Among them, 14 were given treatment.
All of them were out of danger, Mizanur continued.
When contacted, Tuhin said: “Everyone knows who were the attackers. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will do justice to us.”
However, Aslam refused to make any comment regarding the matter.
