A huge fire at a livestock market in Dhaka’s Gabtoli has roasted 11 cows and a goat alive.
Three other cows burned in the fire were butchered afterwards by the traders.
The fire started around 10am on Thursday, said Fire Service Control Room Official Nazma Akhter.
Five fire service units were dispatched to the spot and they brought the blaze under control within a half hour.
Three of the sheds at the capital’s largest livestock market were gutted, killing eleven cows and a goat, said Darussalam Police Station OC Md Selimuzzaman.
The fire service has not reported the cause of the fire or the extent of the damages thus far.The fire began at a two-storey shed in the market and then spread to the two neighbouring sheds, said one of the market’s traders.
Over one hundred heads of cattle were housed in the three sheds, but most were rescued by people at the market.
