Eleven non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) were awarded commercially important persons (CIP) cards on Thursday for their outstanding contributions to the economy by remitting foreign currencies in 2013.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain handed the CIP cards to the awardees at a function at the ministry.
The NRBs got the cards in two categories — those who sent the highest amount of remittance in a fiscal year and those imported the highest quantity of goods to their countries of residence from Bangladesh.
The NRBs who got CIP cards for sending the highest amount of remittance in 2013 are Md Mahtabur (UAE), Md Ali Talukder(UK), Md Adnan Imam (UK), Abul Kalam (UAE), Md Shamsuddin Alam (Qatar), Abul Kalam Azad (Oman), Md Rafiqul Islam (Qatar), Kazi Shafiqul Islam (Oman), Md Abul Kalam (UAE), and Abdul Aziz Khan (Qatar).
Besides, Firoz-ul-Alam (Russia) was awarded the card under the importer category.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said, “We’ll be able to send 6-7 lakh skilled manpower abroad every year the next year.”
He said there are at present 75 centers in different districts for the skill development of those who want to work abroad. “We’ve a plan to set up such training centres in each upazila with financial assistance from the World Bank and other donor agencies.”
The minister further said, “Once the project is implemented, we’ll get 6-7 lakh skilled manpower every year.”
