Insurance Development & Regulatory Authority (IDRA) has approved 11 new insurance companies as the government is running its term.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the IDRA Board of Directors on Thursday, Fazlul Karim, one of its members, told bdnews24.com.
Among the companies that were approved, nine are life insurance companies and the rest two are general insurance.
Fazlul Karim said the approval came after reviewing 77 applications.
Currently, there are a total of 61 companies providing general and life insurance coverage in Bangladesh.
