The High Court has ordered Rajuk to remove all illegal structures from Dhaka’s Gulshan, Banani and Dhanmondi within the next 10 months.
Bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Haque passed the order on Wednesday after concluding final hearing of 233 writ petitions.
Attorney General Mahbube Alam stood in court on behalf of Rajuk, and ABM Altaf Hossain, advocate Idrisur Rahman, Asif Ali Khan and advocate Maniruzzaman stood in court on behalf of the petitioners.
Altaf Hossain told reporters after the verdict that the HC has ordered removal of all unlicensed commercial spaces inside Gulshan, Banani and Dhanmondi residential areas within the next 10 months.
The High Court further said that Rajuk cannot conduct eviction drives, or cut off gas, electricity and water lines in these 10 months. However, Rajuk can take necessary measures if the owners do not move, or take permissions from the government within the deadline.
