  1. Thanks to Dr Hashmi for discussing a topic that is known very little by many Bengalis. Many of those doyens of Bengali literature have been either overt or covert bigots and racists. They committed hate crimes and have been pioneers for the spread of communalism that engulfed the sub-continent. Sadly, many in Bangladesh have no problem honoring those individuals who had spread communalism.
This video is strongly recommended by me.

  2. Very good speaker. Educational and food for thought. I am not 100% sure about every source and will do my own checking.

I was wondering why no mention of Rabindranath’s “Kabuliwala” where there is a caring relationship with a Bengali young child & her educated father & foreign Muslim traveling salesman. It was part of my SSC syllabus and a touching tale.

I fully agree with the ‘revision history’ that Bollywood is doing which started with Jodha-Akbar and goes on. (I don’t bother to watch them anymore). Incidentally I was visiting Delhi, India during the time of the release of that movie and Indian historians (with Hindu last names) were on talk shows saying this is incorrect depiction of history. They were not speaking with religious prejudice or about fantasy love but mainly stating as historians concern about misinformation about a powerful documented Mughal ruler.

My brother had once told me similar version of the “Amar Sonar Bangla” and now I heard one from Dr. Hashmi about the Indian National anthem.

Good material and as I said, I’ll do my own research.
