Salahuddin rearrested; BNP denounces

News - Salahuddin rearrested; BNP denounces
BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed was rearrested at the Dhaka Central Jail gate after his release on bail in various cases on Thursday.

Plainclothes police detained him as he came out of the jail on bail secured from the High Court in the cases filed against him with Paltan Police Station in connection with the April 1 violence in the city.

Later, Salahuddin, a former MP from Cox’s Bazar, was taken to the DB police headquarters in the capital’s Minto Road.

Contacted, Deputy Commissioner (DB-PR) Masudur Rahman said they arrested Salahuddin around 4pm at the jail gate on specific charges.

On April 8, police arrested Salahuddin Ahmed in the city’s Gulshan area when he was returning from BNP vice chairman Morshed Khan’s residence.

He had been taking care of BNP’s official activities since the arrest of its office secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi during a police raid on BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on March 11.

Meanwhile, BNP spokesman Shamsuzzaman Dudu at a press briefing at the BNP office in the evening denounced Salahuddin’s detention.

He demanded immediate release of all BNP leaders, including Salahuddin and Rizvi, and urged the government to resolve the ongoing political crisis through dialogue shunning its repressive acts.
