BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday claimed that the missing joint secretary general of her party, Salahuddin Ahmed, is in the custody of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

“Salahuddin is in RAB custody and tomorrow will mark two months of his disappearance,” the BNP chief said in an exchange of views with pro-BNP lawyers at her Gulshan office.

She warned that the consequence ‘will not be good if anything wrong happens to Salahuddin’.

This is for the first time the BNP chief categorically named a law enforcement agency for the enforced disappearance of the former state minister, Salahuddin Ahmed. Earlier, his family claimed that the members of one of the law enforcement agencies picked him from Uttara.

Khaleda Zia demanded that the BNP leader should be returned immediately to his family or from where he was picked up.

In another note, the BNP chief applauded Indian prime minister Narendra Modi for passing the land boundary agreement (LBA) bill in Indian parliament.

Regarding the city corporation elections, Khaleda Zia said the government has robbed the votes by using the police and terrorists.

She claimed that the BNP would have claimed the mandate of the people if the polls were free and fair.

She alleged that the petrol bomb attacks were carried out by the Awami League and Chhatra League men during the BNP’s hartal and blockade programmes to misguide the people about the aims of the movement.

BNP standing committee member Jamiruddin Sircar, the BNP chairperson’s advisor Ahmed Azam Khan and Tax lawyers’ association president Mazam Ali were present at the meeting, among others.
