President Abdul Hamid has stressed the need for bringing changes in the education and training programmes of Bangladesh Air Forces (BAF) to keep up with the growing world.

“Globalisation and rapid development of technologies have brought changes in the security system of the world. Different techniques are being used worldwide to face terrorism and militancy. So, international standards should be maintained in the education and training progammes of BAF,” the President said while addressing the National Standard Award handover ceremony at the BAF Base Matiur Rahman in Jessore on Wednesday.

President Abdul Hamid asked the BAF members to stay ready for making supreme sacrifice for protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty.

“Patriotic soldiers sacrifice their lives, they never surrender. Build yourself as skilled and ideal air force members and remain careful about ensuring the effective use and maintenance of war weapons, radars and aircraft collected in exchange of public’s hard-earned money,” the President told to the BAF personnel present there.

The construction of ‘Bangabandhu Complex’ is now progressing fast at the Air Force Academy for providing modern training to soldiers and officials of the air force, Abdul Hamid said adding that modernisation of the force would help it contribute more to the country’s development.

President Abdul Hamid expressed the hope that the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) will be built as a strong and effective force both technologically and strategically through implementing the ‘Forces Goal-2030’.

The 210 Maintenance Unit of Bir Sherasta Matiur Rahman Base is the first ISO certified aircraft overhauling establishment of Bangladesh.

This unit has saved huge foreign currency by overhauling a 122 PT-6 aircraft. China’s Jilin Aviation has given this unit the Certificate of Professional Excellence. In recognition of this success, BAF Base Matiur Rahman has achieved the national standard award.

Earlier, the President was received by Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar and Commander of BAF Base Bir Srestho Matiur Rahman Air Commodore Md Shafiqul Alam when he reached the parade ground of the air base by a helicopter from Dhaka in the morning.

The President, accompanied by Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar and Parade Commander Wing Commander Arif Ahmed Dipu, inspected the parade riding an open jeep and took salute.
