Dhaka, Feb 11 (bdnews24.com)— Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday ordered the home ministry and police to launch a full investigation into the deaths of a well-known journalist couple and catch the guilty.
Hasina also offered her condolences to the family of the deceased, Mahbubul Hoque Shakil, the prime minister’s special assistant (media), told bdnews24.com on Saturday.
Police suspect the two were murdered.
Shakil on Saturday went to the victims’ home, at West Razabazar in the capital, and offered condolences to family members of ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Nahar Runi and her husband, Maasranga Television news editor Golam Mustofa Sarowar, known widely as Sagar Sarowar.
He also expressed grief on behalf of the prime minister to the victims’ family members, relatives and the duo’s co-workers.
According to police, the couple’s 5-year-old son found their bodies in their flat on Saturday morning. A police officer told bdnews24.com that the two were killed in the early hours of Saturday but they are yet to work out the motive or identify the suspects.
Meanwhile, prime minister’s press secretary Abul Kalam Azad told bdnews24.com that Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep grief over the incident.
In her condolence message, Hasina stated that the media world faces an irreparable loss with the deaths of these two talented journalists, Azad said.
The PM’s press secretary also said Hasina prayed for salvation of the departed souls and offered condolences to their family members and co-workers.
