Star Online Report

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today claimed that people’s human rights index reached beneath the zero level during the rule of the current government.

“At present human rights index of Bangladesh people is now staying under zero level. People’s have no minimum rights to speak independently here,” Fakhrul said in a message marking the World Human Rights Day to be observed across the world tomorrow.

Claiming that the country is now passing through terrible times as the ruling quarter has turned the country into a “slaughter ground”, Fakhrul said, “We will have to be united to retrieve the citizen rights.”

Terming the government as illegal and accusing it of snatching people’s democratic rights, Fakhrul said not only the opposition party men, there is no security of people at different communities including journalists, human rights activists, students, teachers, labours, women and children.

Most of them are either being disappeared or being victimised of secret or extrajudicial killings, the BNP leader said in the message.

He also said an inhuman autocratic rule is going on in the country as neutral political analysts and talk show participants, apart from opposition party men, are being implicated with false cases or being kept in jail.

Describing his party’s Chairperson Khaleda Zia as an uncompromised leader, Fakhrul said, “Our leader has been kept in jail by implicating her with false and fabricated cases snatching her human rights.”

“Unkind and inhuman behaviour is being shown to our party chief denying her bail. On the World Human Rights Day, I express my condemnation to such manner,” the BNP leader said and demanded immediate unconditional release Khaleda Zia.

Fakhrul also extended her heartiest sympathy to the repressed and oppressed people on the day announced by the United Nations.
