Bangladesh left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam is back in action recovering from a hand injury picked during the tour of the West Indies last month. The 27-year-old bowler is part of the 15-member Bangladesh squad for the Asia Cup and got to the nets at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday to bowl for the first time since picking up the injury.

Nazmul sustained injury after Windies batsman Chadick Walton had inadvertently stepped on the bowler’s left-hand during the series decider of the three-match T20I series against te Windies on August 5 at Lauderhill, Florida. The freak injury saw Nazmul receive 25 stitches and the doctors had expected him to recover in four weeks.

Nazmul got back to the nets on the 28th day since the injury. According to BCB physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury, Nazmul has recovered well and has no complain of any sort.

“He (Nazmul) bowled today (Sunday) and has not complained about anything yet. The last time I saw him, he had recovered well and was on track to get back to the field,” said Dr Debashish to Dhaka Tribune on Sunday.

The 15-member Bangladesh team for the Asia Cup is rigorously practicing for the six-nation tournament set to begin in Dubai on September 15. Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka at Dubai International Stadium on the opening day of the tournament.

The Tigers are scheduled to leave Dhaka on September 9.
