Mahmudullah resumes training ahead of India tie

Bangladesh received a boost ahead of their match against India in Birmingham on Sunday when batsman Mahmudullah joined the training recovering from a hamstring injury.

Mahmudullah picked up the injury during last week’s 62-run win against Afghanistan in Southampton when he hobbled to score 27 off 38 balls and was put on a crutch immediately to protect his calf muscle.

The scene of him walking with a crutch in Southampton appeared scary to many Bangladesh fans, though the team management was always confident of his recovery ahead of India game.

It was one reason Bangladesh refrained from seeking any replacement despite the team had their time in hands with a long break before playing their next match against India.

While the rest of the team was given a five-day break after the Afghanistan game, Mahmudullah did his rehab with physio Thihan Chandramohan in Birmingham, which seemed to have done a wonder.

The 33-year old right-hander abandoned his crutch soon after arriving in Birmingham and walked normally to the team bus to join the rest of the members for training at Edgbaston practice area on Sunday.

‘He did some knocking and stayed at the nets for around 10 minutes. It was a measured attempt to see how he feels in the training,’ said a team official in Birmingham.

‘We are expecting him to go for a full-fledged training session on tomorrow[ Monday]  before deciding his availability for India game,’ he added.
